About Me

Who is the face behind Such Purdy Hydroponics?

Hi!  My name is Jennie Kiger Purdy.

I've been happily growing plants in my various AeroGardens almost as long as AeroGardens have been around, since late 2010.  I started just growing herbs so I had garden-fresh herbs available for cooking year round.  It didn't take long, before I decided to try the tomatoes as well, and added a "tall garden" - back then, there were only two models, a 7 pod and a 3 pod, and the 'tall garden' was just the same 7 pod model with an extension pole for the hood!

For several years, I was quite happy with my herb garden and my tomato garden; it was a nice supplement to my cooking and for the winter when I couldn't garden outside, and the lights also benefited my seedlings destined for the outside garden.  I picked up an LED 7-hole unit shortly after they were released, because of the sheer cost of replacing the CFL bulbs, and it became my primary herb grower.

However, in 2015, my health went from poor to truly bad.  I kept it under some kind of control until 2018, at which point it reached the level that outside gardening really just wasn't feasible anymore.  Shortly before Christmas that year, I discovered the existence of AeroGarden's new Farm models.  Eureka!  I could garden inside, sitting in a chair.  Perfect.  My Christmas funds went to buying myself a FarmXL.  Christmas 2019 saw the addition of a FarmBasic for lettuce, freeing the XL for larger plants.  My birthday 2020 added a Gardyn to my growing collection.

Between my indoor hydroponics units and my outdoor gardens, I have grown (or at least tried to grow) the vast majority of common garden plants.  And, because I am the nerd that I am, I researched everything I planted extensively.

After finding I was not only answering tons and tons of questions on various AeroGarden and other hydroponics and gardening groups and forums, but it kept being the same questions over and over, I decided a blog to impart this commonly sought information would be a benefit to folks, so here we are!
